Cardinals’ first roster cutdown coming Tuesday

They must cut five players by Tuesday.

With one preseason game in the books, the Arizona Cardinals and the rest of  the NFL must begin to make roster decisions. The first roster cutdown date is Tuesday, Aug. 16.

By Tuesday afternoon, teams must trim their rosters by five players, getting them down to 85.

One would think that this is an easy thing, but injuries and depth affect who will be the first to go.

For the Cardinals, players like quarterback Jarrett Guarantano, punter Nolan Cooney and undrafted running backs T.J. Pledger and Ronnie Rivers might find themselves out of a job this week.

This week, teams must get their rosters down to 85 players. After the second preseason game, the next cutdown is to 80 players and then, the following week, final cutdowns to 53 players happen.
