Cardinals considered one of favorites to land Cam Newton

They are given 9/1 odds to land the former MVP.

The Arizona Cardinals appear set at the quarterback position with four currently on their roster but oddsmakers believe they are one of the most likely landing spots for free agent quarterback Cam Newton.

Newton was released by the Carolina Panthers this offseason after they found no trade partner. He played in only two games last season because of a foot injury.

According to recent odds from Betonline.ag, the Cardinals have 9/1 odds to have Newton on their Week 1 roster, tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers and behind the New England Patriots (4/1), Washington Redskins  (7/1) and Tennessee Titans (8/1).

The three-time Pro Bowler and former MVP has not had much interest in the offseason from teams, likely because of the inability to be checked out medically in team facilities.

Newton would not be signing with the Cardinals to be a starter. They are fully committed to Kyler Murray. The backup on the roster is currently Brett Hundley, with Drew Anderson and Chris Streveler battling for a possible third spot on the roster.

Newton would obviously be a better option than any of those, although Hundley does have knowledge of the offense.

Newton, when healthy, has the mobility to play in the Cardinals’ offense.

However, because of the shortened offseason and the lack of reps on the practice field, the Cardinals will likely stand pat with Hundley behind Murray.
