Following his selection as the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA’s 2010 draft, John Wall stayed with the Washington Wizards franchise until his December 2020 trade to the Houston Rockets. Over that decade, Wall developed a clear bond with the fans and community of Washington, DC.
As a result, Wall reacted strongly after angry supporters of President Donald Trump breached the U.S. Capitol building on Wednesday, leading to several hours of riots and violence and briefly disrupting the certification of the 2020 presidential election for Joe Biden.
Wall was asked about the U.S. Capitol riots following Houston’s game on Wednesday night in Indianapolis. Here’s how the 30-year-old guard, who made the All-Star Game five times with the Wizards, replied:
Can’t believe it. Can’t believe it. Lost for words with it. The most important thing we can do is still stand up for what we stand for, and believe in that and stand behind that. We can’t really control what people want to have outbursts and things like that. I wish the best to those people that have to be around that, be involved around that. Hope they stay safe and nobody gets hurt anymore. I’ve seen some of the things they did, and if you really look at it in all reality, it kind of looks like a movie. Like, you can’t believe it, it don’t look true.
I just wish the best and everybody can get out of there safely and we don’t have more problems. And that when Donald Trump leaves, he can leave peacefully and we can welcome Joe Biden with open arms and let him become the new president.
