Candlestick Chronicles: George Kittle and the WR-sized contract extension

Chris and Kyle chat about the potentially massive George Kittle contract extension on Candlestick Chronicles.

George Kittle’s contract extension is still in the works, but general manager John Lynch isn’t going to let the tight end get away. Kittle enters the 2020 season on the final year of his rookie deal, which means he’s eligible for an extension on the first contract he signed as a fifth-round pick in the 2017 draft.

Since joining the club, Kittle has racked up more receiving yards than any tight end ever through three seasons, and became an integral part of the 49ers’ rushing attack as well. His contract extension will certainly reset the tight end market and then some.

In the latest edition of Candlestick Chronicles, Chris Biderman of the Sacramento Bee and Kyle Madson discuss what Kittle’s contract might look like, what players his deal should be comparable to, and potential drawbacks of the deal for San Francisco.
