Can Boston’s Jayson Tatum break his worst NBA habit?

His habit of taking very tough, contested pull-up 3-point shots instead of attacking the rim costs his club wins.

Star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum is clearly one of the best players in the NBA this season, but even still has some faults in his game he ought to be working on moving forward. Namely, the tendency of the St. Louis native to take very tough, contested pull-up 3-point shots instead of attacking the rim with his newfound muscular frame is something that doesn’t need to happen and actively hurts his team.

This habit in particular was the subject of part of a recent video put together by the eponymous host of the Volume “Hoops Tonight with Jayson Timpf” podcast, with Timpf suggesting that the Celtics coaching staff should intervene to try to break the Duke alum of this maddening tic.

The pod host is not vindictive vs. Tatum, noting how it is a normal part of a young player’s growth to learn to value possessions more as they age into their primes.
