When asked about personal strengths and weaknesses, Houston Rockets rookie forward Cam Whitmore said he wants to improve his midrange game while getting his teammates more involved.

Even though Whitmore won MVP of the NBA’s recently completed 2023 summer league, it wasn’t a perfect stint in Las Vegas for the Rockets, who lost the championship game to Cleveland.

“This is just the start, the beginning,” Whitmore told Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints in an exclusive interview. “The start of me showing showcasing my talent, showcasing my abilities that I am a great pick, I’m a top pick, and I’m here for a reason.”

“They told me play hard, play together, and also they tell me every day to just play my game,” Whitmore says of his advice from coaches.

Later in the interview, Whitmore singled out the midrange game and getting teammates involved as areas of needed improvement. However, after unexpectedly falling to the 20th pick in the 2023 first round, Whitmore has ample motivation to keep going.

“The way I was picked and disrespected from the start, from the beginning, I just have that chip on my shoulder … and that motivation has allowed me to display my talents on the floor,” Whitmore said.
