Whether or not it’s for the Carolina Panthers (again), Cam Newton seems confident he’ll be in an NFL uniform this season. He also seems intent, as expected, on making sure that uniform is the right fit.
According to ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, Newton says he has multiple teams looking to potentially sign him for 2022. But his signature will have to wait, as he’s biding his time for the right opportunity.

The former Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year has stuck to his guns on that sentiment. In his exit interview following the 2021 campaign, Newton told reporters that his next stop will be all about getting after that Lombardi Trophy.
“Yes, I still do think I can play at a high level. Absolutely,” he said on Jan. 10. “But if an opportunity presents itself where I don’t necessarily need to play and it’s about winning, yeah, I’m willing to do that too. This point forward, I’m not coming back for no 5-12, I can tell you that now. Winning makes everything better. So to what degree am I willing to do—whether it being the starter or not—if it’s about winning, I’m with it.”
That stop could ultimately become a stay, if Carolina can indeed present him with said criteria. But how close are the Panthers to really winning and how willing would they be to really play the soon-to-be 33-year-old?
We’ll soon find out—as the options continue to dwindle for both Newton and the Panthers.
