Cam Akers unlikely to play in Week 4

Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers missed practice again today and is unlikely to suit up for the team on Sunday.

The rookie running back suffered a rib injury against the Eagles in Week 2 and did not play in last week’s loss in Buffalo. Akers was operating as the Rams’ number two running back behind Malcolm Brown before both backs were injured in the same game.

The injuries to Brown and Akers opened the door for back-to-back breakout performances from Darrell Henderson. The second-year back has 241 total yards and two touchdowns over the past two games. Akers has an uphill climb to work his way back up the depth chart once he returns. The starting job is Henderson’s to lose.

It remains unclear how long much longer Akers will be out for, but a Week 5 return is certainly in play since he wasn’t placed on injured reserve. For now, the Rams will once again look to continue their success in the running game without him against the New York Giants on Sunday.
