Cam Akers (personal) ruled out vs. Panthers, future with team uncertain

Sean McVay has ruled out Cam Akers for Week 6 and he was non-committal about him remaining on the team moving forward.

Cam Akers was absent from practice for the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday due to personal reasons, leading many to question what was going on. With a couple of days to go until the Rams host the Carolina Panthers, McVay revealed that Akers won’t be active in Week 6 and he was non-committal on his future with the team.

It remains to be seen what the exact reason is for Akers’ absence from the team. Hopefully, it isn’t anything serious that is forcing Akers to remain away from the team.

Meanwhile, there’s a chance that the Rams are simply preparing to move on from Akers. The third-year back has gotten off to a rough start this season with only 151 rushing yards and one touchdown on 51 attempts.

The Rams have made a concerted effort to get Akers involved in the offense, but the former second-round pick has struggled to be effective for consistent stretches. With Akers ruled out in Week 6 — and potentially longer — Darrell Henderson is expected to start at running back while Malcolm Brown could spell him.

Even though Akers has been easy to root for since he arrived in Los Angeles, there’s a chance his tenure with the Rams is nearing a conclusion. There will likely be more information that is released in the coming days regarding Akers’ situation.
