The Atlanta Falcons have shockingly traded star wide receiver [autotag]Calvin Ridley[/autotag] to the Jacksonville Jaguars right before the NFL trade deadline in exchange for draft compensation.
Ridley was a standout at the collegiate level for the Alabama Crimson Tide where he was a first-team All-SEC receiver in 2017 as well as a two-time national champion. During his time in Tuscaloosa, Ridley appeared in 44 games and posted 224 catches for 2,781 yards and 19 touchdowns.
After a successful college career, Ridley was selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft by the Falcons with the No. 26 overall selection. Ridley started 5 games as a rookie and continued to see his production grow from there.
In 2020, Ridley had his most impactful season to date with 90 catches for 1,374 yards and nine touchdowns in 15 games. However, only five games into his 2021 season he decided to take the year off due to mental health reasons. This was the last time we saw Ridley in action
On March 7, 2022, Ridley was suspended for the entirety of the 2022 NFL season after he was found to be gambling on games while injured in 2021. So the Jaguars are making an investment in next season knowing Ridley will not available until 2023.
Shocker: The #Falcons are trading WR Calvin Ridley to the #Jaguars, sources say, in exchange for complex draft compensation that can be worth at maximum a 2023 5th rounder and a 2024 2nd rounder. Ridley is suspended through at least the 2022 season. pic.twitter.com/Zk6Yb7U5F3
