In an interview with Justin Melo of The Draft Network, California safety Daniel Scott revealed he’d met with the Washington Commanders via Zoom.
While the Commanders — and most teams — took advantage of the Zoom meetings, scheduling as many as allowed, you can see the intrigue between the Commanders and Scott.
The first thing that stands out is Scott’s experience. Scott played six seasons at Cal, serving as a team captain and earning All-PAC-12 honors in 2022. Over the course of his career, he appeared in 49 games, making 28 starts.
For Washington head coach Ron Rivera, he loves battle-tested college players who can contribute immediately. Rivera likes players with a high floor, especially with day-three picks, which Scott will be in this week’s draft.
Oh, and did we mention that Rivera is a graduate of Cal?
Therefore, Rivera knows all about what Scott can do.
At the NFL combine, Scott measured in at 6-foot-1 and 208 pounds. He was timed at 4.45 seconds in the 40-yard dash, with a vertical jump of 39.5.”
Scott’s testing numbers, combined with his experience and versatility at Cal, make him an interesting potential choice for the Commanders on Saturday’s day three of the NFL draft.
