Caleb Williams offers insights on why USC was the best choice he could make

‘I wanted to keep progressing.’ – Caleb Williams on why he chose to come to #USC

The biggest transfer portal splash of the college football offseason was Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams heading to Los Angeles to play for Lincoln Riley at USC. Then it was Pittsburgh receiver Jordan Addison who also headed to Heritage Hall.

Many wondered why Caleb Williams decided to head to the Trojans, a team that won four games in 2021. Many suggested it was due to NIL incentives.

Williams spoke about his decision to head to USC, where there is all sorts of pressure on his shoulders. (h/t Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports).

“The deciding factor for me, actually, was how familiar I was with all the people coming here,” Williams said. “Coaching staff, nutritionists, everybody knows Coach Riley. I was very familiar with their families. Very close. I didn’t want to feel like a freshman going to a new place, having to learn a new offense. I, for sure, didn’t want to go to a new school to be in that position … I wanted to keep progressing.”

This makes sense. Williams also got welcomed by a number of NIL deals. He is the face of the Trojans for the time being.

There is an immense amount of pressure on Williams, and he is entrenched in the Heisman Trophy conversation before the season has even begun.
