The speculation and analysis surrounding Caleb Williams before the 2024 NFL draft are impossible to ignore.
“I’m told by NFL executives, that USC’s quarterback is the best quarterback prospect they can remember. Better than Andrew Luck … led the nation in offense despite only having one great teammate in two years … He’s a LeBron as a prospect.” — Colin Cowherd, The Herd
When we think about great draft debates — before the draft and after it — we are reminded about some of the key decisions made in specific drafts. In 1998, Peyton Manning was picked before Ryan Leaf. One had a Hall of Fame career while the other was a total bust. Almost two decades after the 1998 draft, we had another fascinating NFL draft, the 2017 event, in which Deshaun Watson, Mitch Trubisky, and Patrick Mahomes were all taken in the top 12 picks. Trubisky was taken eight spots ahead of Mahomes, and Mahomes was taken two spots ahead of Watson. Decisions franchises did — and didn’t — make shaped their futures for a very long time. Now a new quarterback question confronts NFL teams: Caleb, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, or someone else? We will find out in two and a half months.
