When Michigan basketball five-star freshman Caleb Houstan entered his name into the NBA draft, most figured he would go and get an evaluation, and then return to Ann Arbor. But the funny thing is when you get an evaluation, all it takes is one team to become enamored with your game to make staying in worthwhile.
Houstan started being included in first-round NBA draft mocks, and he went from being a likely returner in Ann Arbor to a potential departure.
So, would he go the way of Hunter Dickinson and come back or would he follow his first-year classmate in Moussa Diabate and test the NBA draft waters?
It turns out, he’s taking the latter, as he was announced to be staying in the NBA draft, thus forgoing three more years of intercollegiate eligibility.

Houstan showed glimpses of his potential as a Wolverine, but he was relatively streaky. Some games, he would come on strong and drain several 3s, but in others, he would disappear completely — at least on the offensive side of the ball. He did continue to improve his defense as the season wore on.
With Houstan and Diabate now gone, Michigan basketball will be relying much more on a mixture of talent that’s already on campus but has been on the bench, as well as incoming players in the freshman class.
