Who throws a shoe, honestly?
Players that belong to the football team at BYU, apparently.
Because look, this isn’t the first time we’ve been here with the Cougars. You remember when a BYU defensive lineman put some air under the shoe of former Tennessee quarterback Jarrett Guarantano, right? (On second thought, that was the Jeremy Pruitt era of Vols football, and nobody really wants to remember that.)
Anyway – BYU was at it again Thursday night, throwing an opponent’s shoe. This time, the culprit was Cougars junior linebacker Max Tooley, and the shoeless victim was Utah State quarterback Cooper Legas.
Tooley’s shenanigans earned BYU a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The shoe-tossing happened after BYU stopped Utah State on a third down. So, instead of forcing a punt, the Aggies kept driving. Luckily, Tooley’s teammate, Micah Harper, forced Utah State to fumble just four plays later.
It’s been an eventful night for Tooley. In addition to his shoe-throwing penalty, Tooley had a pick-six in the first quarter – his second of the year.

At halftime, BYU was tied 17-17 with Utah State. That’s good news for folks who put money on the Aggies to cover the 26-point spread.
