There’s a chance that Chicago Bulls point guard Ayo Dosunmu becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer.

When free agency opened this summer, the Chicago Bulls made their presence known.

They re-signed Coby White to a three-year deal and brought in point guard Jevon Carter within the first hour. A couple of days later, they signed veteran forward Torrey Craig to a contract. Of course, that doesn’t even take into account Nikola Vucevic‘s contract extension, which came through a couple of days before free agency started.

But one situation still looms: Ayo Dosunmu. The 23-year-old guard remains a free agent, and at this point, it’s hard to say what the outcome with be. However, Elias Schuster of Bleacher Nation believes the situation could be trending toward Dosunmu simply rejoining Chicago on his qualifying offer.

However, that would make him an unrestricted free agent next offseason.

“The fact things have dragged on this long would seemingly suggest that Dosunmu is most likely to return on his $5.2 million qualifying offer,” Schuster wrote. “I feel like if there was a multi-year agreement coming in Chicago, the Bulls would have prioritized getting that contract signed. Now, unless he finds himself receiving a RFA offer sheet from another franchise, he could be in line to hit unrestricted free agency next summer. If I’m being honest, I am hoping another team swoops in to put the pressure on the Bulls. While I know there is a logjam in the backcourt right now, I still think it’s valuable to have young developing talent like Dosunmu on the roster. He is the kind of talent this organization needs to continue to invest in.”

Dosunmu had a relatively disappointing sophomore season, but losing him for nothing would be a rough look for Chicago, whether that be this summer or next.
