Can Tyler Kroft stay healthy this year and be productive as a depth player for the Bills?

Kroft was signed during last season’s free agent period as a player to give Josh Allen a better option at tight end than the tandem of Jason Croom and Charles Clay, the duo the QB worked with as a rookie. Kroft had some success with the Bengals, filling in for Tyler Eifert when necessary. He parlayed this success into a three-year contract with the Bills.

The plans for Kroft being No. 1 on the depth chart was squash right away, as Kroft injured his foot during the first day of OTAs. It was the second time in three seasons that Kroft would miss substantial time due to injury. It’s becoming a common trend.

Now, what will Kroft’s role be in the offense this year? His contract has restructured this offseason, so 2020 will be the end of his tenure in Buffalo. Kroft will be playing for his next contract with his 2020 season. He will be a solid insurance policy if there are issues with Knox at all, but the bigger concern is whether or not Kroft will even be there to back him up.
