The nickname for Buffalo, the “city of good neighbors,” was temporarily replaced over the weekend.
On Saturday, the Bills (11-3) defeated the Dolphins, 32-29, in a chilly and snowy affair.
They were very much not alone in western New York in terms of sports teams that won games. In fact, all over the Queen City there were winners: The Sabres and Bandits included.
In addition to the Bills’ victory, the professional hockey and lacrosse teams, respectively, also took home wins for Buffalo on the exact same evening. According to the Buffalo News, it’s the first time that’s ever happened.
The Sabres beat the Arizona Coyotes, 5-2. Meanwhile, the Bandits defeated another faction of Bills fans, those from southern Ontario–As they topped the Toronto Rock, 11-8.
Yes, you’re reading the right. All three wins for Buffalo teams were by a three-point margin as well.
The winning ways also bled over into the other end of western New York: Rochester. They just left the threes out of it.
The lacrosse team, the Knighthawks, took a 14-13 win over the Albany Firewolves. The Americans, the minor league pro hockey team which is the Sabres’ affiliate club, won 4-0 over the Charlotte Checkers.
Finally, in more unfortunate news for our friends from the North: The beloved Maple Leafs joined the Rock in losing as well. The Washington Capitals beat the Canadian hockey club, 5-2 on Saturday.
Congrats to all the WNY teams for the victories, at least.
