The Brooklyn Nets start training camp less than two weeks from now and, like most teams, the Nets have their roster set for the most part as they look to prepare for the upcoming season. There is one player who is available for a trade that Brooklyn could look into to improve its three-point shooting.
Shams Charania of The Athletic recently reported that the Indiana Pacers have begun the process of trying to trade sharpshooting guard Buddy Hield after contract negotiations between both parties broke down. Indiana is currently in the midst of a full rebuild so veterans like Hield, 30, may be going elsewhere to free up playing time for the younger players on the team.
As such, Hield may be easier to get than most players of his caliber given that Indiana appears to prefer to get Hield off the roster at this point. So far, it seems that the only team that has had consistent interest in Hield is the Los Angeles Lakers. What about Brooklyn?
While the Nets are in the midst of a rebuild themselves, they are better positioned to be playoff-caliber with a player like Hield than the Pacers are at this moment in time. However, one thing to remember is that Hield is under contract for only one more season so if Brooklyn wanted to keep him beyond this season, they would have to extend him.
At the moment, there hasn’t been any reported interest by Brooklyn when it comes to Hield. However, if the value is there, the Nets could be improving their shooting by a massive degree by having Hield on the perimeter to open things up for players like Spencer Dinwiddie and Ben Simmons.
Brooklyn should at least see what it would take to get Hield and if the cost isn’t too great, figure the rest out later depending on how this season goes.
