Bucs OC Dave Canales to take second interview with the Carolina Panthers

Canales seems to have continued to impress the Panthers during Tampa Bay’s postseason run.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator [autotag]Dave Canales[/autotag] has impressed in his first year as a playcaller, and it seems that he’s been turning the right heads after his debut season.

The NFL’s Ian Rapoport reported that Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales is taking a second interview with the Carolina Panthers. Canales previously took his first interview digitally last Thursday, but he’ll now do his second one in person.

Canales was in his first year as an offensive playcaller with Tampa Bay in 2023. In that first year, he finished the regular season 23rd in yards per game and 20th in points per game. He was able to help lead the team to the playoffs and win a playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

His main draw as a potential head coach would be his ability to develop a quarterback. He worked with Geno Smith in Seattle and Baker Mayfield in Tampa Bay, and both those quarterbacks had arguably career years under his coaching. The Panthers may particularly interested in his talents due to their rookie quarterback’s presence, with the hopes that he could develop Bryce Young going forward.
