Bucs HC Todd Bowles: Tampa Bay will be ‘listeners’ at the trade deadline

While Bowles stressed that he doesn’t anticipate the team being buyers or sellers, he didn’t rule out making a move if it fits the team.

Could the Tampa Bay Buccaneers make a move at the trade deadline? It’s unlikely, but according to Bucs head coach Todd Bowles, don’t rule it out, either.

Bowles was asked on Monday after the team’s mini-bye week if Tampa Bay could make some moves before the trade deadline on Oct. 31, and while he indicated that it’s unlikely the Bucs will participate in the proceedings, he did make one thing clear — the team will certainly listen.

“I think we’re listeners,” Bowles told media Monday. “It’s got to fit us and it’s got to come that way. We’re not looking to buy or sell, but we’re looking to listen. If anything comes about, we’ll take a look at it.”

Logistically, the Bucs making any additions wouldn’t make a lot of sense — as it stands right now, Tampa Bay only has 3.8 million dollars in cap space, so a big addition would likely require restructuring the team can’t afford at the moment. Although unlikely while one game back from the NFC South, the Bucs could be sellers — both wide receiver Mike Evans and linebacker Devin White have been unhappy with their contract situations, and it’s feasible that the team could get picks from those two players for next year’s season.
