Bucky Brooks’ 1st mock draft has Cardinals landing Heisman winner

They land Alabama WR DeVonta Smith, who caught 117 passes for 1,856 yards and a whopping 23 touchdowns last season.

The Arizona Cardinals are expected to address the wide receiver position this offseason in some way. After passing on CeeDee Lamb in last year’s draft, could they take a big-time receiver this year?

It works out that way in the first mock draft by NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks.

With the 16th pick in the first round, the Cardinals select Alabama receiver DeVonta Smith.

Larry Fitzgerald has not made any announcement of his plans for 2021 as of this writing. However, with the 37-year-old either at or near the end of his illustrious career, the Cards decide to grab a polished pass catcher to play opposite DeAndre Hopkins in this scenario.

Smith was the winner of the Heisman Trophy and was unbelievable in 2020, catching 117 passes for 1,856 yards at 23 touchdowns.

He is super lean at 6-1, 175, but the way he runs routes, catches the ball and moves, you can’t help but fall in love with him as a player. And as a player who also returned 11 punts in 2020, you know he is a tough player.

The Cardinals do have a lot of needs to fill but it would be hard to pass up a great talent at receive like him when they struggled to get consistent production from any receiver in 2020 outside of DeAndre Hopkins.

He would immediately make the offense better and could potentially unlock another level of the passing game the Cardinals still need to show.
