Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Jarrett Culver delivered the best dunk of the New Year on Wednesday over 7-foot-0 Bucks big man Robin Lopez, but what happened after the play was just as interesting. With the Timberwolves down four points with just under 10 minutes to play in the fourth quarter, Culver drove around a screen at the top of the three-point arc and elevated over Lopez, throwing down a colossal one-handed jam as Lopez tried to recover and block the shot.

When Culver landed, he flexed and yelled in Lopez’s direction, which earned him a technical foul on the play. Lopez was irate, and he chased Culver down the court to confront him after the play.

Culver ran away when he saw Lopez coming, but Lopez escaped punishment despite shoving one of Culver’s teammates aside while trying to get to him. The Bucks went on to win the game, 106-104, but Timberwolves coach Ryan Saunders said he loved Culver’s play, even despite the costly technical.

“Love it. Just love it. Love it. That’s…. that’s… I love it.”
Well said, coach.
