Bruce Smith explains answer mishap on ‘Family Feud’

Former Buffalo Bills, Hall of Fame Bruce Smith explains mishaps on “Family Feud” when he said “penis” as an answer.

Earlier this week, Bruce Smith and some Hall of Fame NFL players such as Cris Carter and Michael Irvin were competing on a team on the television show “Family Feud” for charity. Smith had an intriguing answer to one of the questions host Steve Harvey asked him.

Harvey asked “What tool Captain Hook would use to replace the hook if the character was a handyman?”

“Hammer,” Smith’s first guess, was already taken.

Smith, the NFL’s all-time leader sack artist has played under a lot of pressure in front of millions of people in his football career. The lights of the game show got to him, he later explained.

After his first guess, Smith then blurted out “penis” after a moment of silent confusion. Even Harvey was in disbelief with his answer, launching an expletive after realizing what Smith had said. Everyone on stage laughed at Smith’s answer and things eventually continued and Smith’s answer went viral.

“There is something about a time clock and a buzzer that, it makes you become confused when you’re running out of time and you don’t have an answer,” Smith explained on The Dan Patrick Show. “I gave the No. 1 answer originally and then when that buzzer went off a couple of times. I guess I kind of panicked.”

Smith also sent some blame the way of the producers of the show, trying to potentially take some heat off himself.

“As we were filming the show, there were multiple questions where all they talked about was sex,” Smith said. “I was already hot-wired to potentially give that answer. I just needed the time and the space.”

But hey, no harm, no foul. Maybe Smith regrets the answer, but it could have been worse and just about everyone laughed.
