B/R’s Jake Fischer reports Celtics ‘looking to acquire picks in the back half of the first round’ of 2022 NBA draft

Is there fire behind this smoke?

There are a number of rumors floating around the NBA media sphere suggesting that the Boston Celtics are trying to break into the late first round of the 2022 NBA draft, or at least secure a second-round pick further up in this year’s annual roster replenishment fiesta, and Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer recently added a little more fuel to that proverbial fire in an article on the rumbles he’s hearing about Thursday’s big event.

Per Fischer, the Celtics as “looking to acquire picks in the back half of the first round.” To get there, Boston appears “willing to engage in conversations on rotation players like Grant Williams and Payton Pritchard, but only for the right price.”

What could that mean for the Celtics ahead of tonight’s draft? Quite likely, nothing at all given the bulk of draft-day rumors do not pan out even when they are honed in on very real talks between teams.

But conversely, with the amount of chatter we have been hearing about Boston being active on the phones ahead of the event, such a move certainly isn’t out of the question either.

As the draft draws closer throughout the day, expect more intel to percolate through the media, if not a deal outright.
