Browns vs. Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence faces ‘uphill battle’ to play on short week

The Browns and the Jaguars are both beat up as they limp into Sunday’s matchup.

While the Jacksonville Jaguars are not ruling quarterback Trevor Lawrence out on Sunday after he was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain on Monday Night Football, the former first overall pick’s chances are not high. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Lawrence faces “an uphill battle to get on the field Sunday” as the Jaguars take on the Cleveland Browns.

The Browns, of course, have a great deal of injury woes of their own to work through. Wide receiver Amari Cooper is still in the concussion protocol, and while key contributors like cornerback Denzel Ward have returned to practice, they have been ravaged by injuries all season long.

The Jaguars have already essentially locked in their playoff spot, while the 7-5 Browns still control their own destiny toward a wildcard birth despite the rocky season on the injury front. It looks to be an ugly game on Sunday in Cleveland as both teams may not be fielding the best versions of themselves this late into the season.
