Browns legend Clay Matthews once again snubbed by the Pro Football Hall of Fame

This was Matthews’ 20th season of eligibility

The Pro Football Hall of Fame revealed its induction class of 2021 in advance of Sunday’s Super Bowl LV. Once again, Browns legend Clay Matthews was left on the outside looking in with the selection committee.

Matthews was passed over in his first year as a finalist. He has been a semi-finalist in five separate years. This was No. 57’s 20th year of eligibility.

Matthews tops all Browns in games played, sacks and total seasons, spending 16 years in Cleveland from 1978-1993. He led the NFL in tackles three times and made four Pro Bowls in his illustrious long career. Matthews is still the NFL’s all-time leader in games played by a linebacker.
