Browns Insider believes Texans Jerrod Johnson is the favorite for OC position

The Texans quarterback coach could be the next OC in Cleveland

The search for the next offensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns might have a front-runner. According to insider Mary Kay Cabot, Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson, who will interview with the team Tuesday, could be the front-runner.

“He’s already been strongly endorsed by Deshaun Watson’s friend and Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, and Watson’s longtime personal quarterbacks coach Quincy Avery.”

It is clear that Kevin Stefanski is looking for a fresh voice to help the offense shape around Deshaun Watson and if Johnson has his support the move makes sense. What CJ Stroud has done this year was fun to watch and Johnson has been part of the rookie’s success. The offense that Johnson helped run with offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik is exactly the type of offense the Browns likely want to and should run next season.
The team will have Johnson in the building on Tuesday and if he is the front runner they should make sure he doesn’t leave town as he has interest from other teams. Finding a way to get Watson back to his Texans form is crucial for the team in 2024 and Johnson is a rising star amongst the coaching ranks.
