Ahead of their meeting with the Buffalo Bills, the Denver Broncos know a force of nature is coming toward them and its name is Josh Allen.

The Bills quarterback is having nothing short of a breakdown year and is a big reason why Buffalo is 10-3 heading into Denver. At 5-8, the Broncos have had their struggles and hope their young QB, Drew Lock, can have a similar future.

In breaking down Allen’s ascension, Broncos head coach Vic Fangio discussed what is perhaps an under the surface reason for Allen’s successes. While Allen himself has put in the work, he’s had help, and perhaps most importantly, the same helpers.

During his entire NFL career to this point, Allen’s offensive coordinator has been Brian Daboll. Fangio thinks keeping the same pieces around Buffalo’s QB is an example of why it’s important for Denver to do the same.

“There’s no doubt about it that continuity, especially as it relates to a quarterback, can have tremendous positive affect with a lot of the successful quarterbacks,” Fangio said via video conference this week. “You see it time and time again when the continuity pays off when the players develop better, particularly the quarterback and hopefully we’ll be able to do that Drew.”

“He’s having a hell of a season,” Fangio added on Allen. “The guy has emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the league.”

Currently the Broncos have Pat Shurmur as their offensive coordinator. As it was for so many years in Buffalo during their team’s playoff drought, the OC position is currently a topic of discussion for Broncos fans. Are they moving in the right direction? Clearly their head coach thinks so, and believes making changes won’t help.

And while not pulling any strings or having a say in the slightest in what happens in Denver, Allen himself thinks keeping pieces in place in 2021 would be smart for the Broncos. Allen admitted via video conference this week that his own development could’ve gone much different if things were changed around too much.

“I mean I definitely think it would’ve made it more difficult. Having the same verbiage and the same concepts and that type of relationship I’ve had with Daboll, it’s been extremely helpful,” Allen said. “Scheme-wise, knowing my protections and knowing the concepts that I like, Daboll, understanding the concepts that I don’t like, and… yeah. If we had to switch it up, it’d be tough. Nobody likes learning a new systems, especially if you feel comfortable in the one you’re in now.”
