Broncos tried to trade back into the first round of the NFL Draft

Broncos general manager John Elway tried to trade back into the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday evening.

After selecting Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy with the 15th overall pick of the NFL Draft on Thursday, the Denver Broncos tried to trade back into the first round for an unknown prospect.

“We did try to get back into the backend,” Elway said during a Zoom conference call with reporters on Thursday evening. “There wasn’t — people didn’t want to go fall back as far as we were so we couldn’t get back into [the first round].

“There was some attempt to get back in but we weren’t able to do it. So, we’re happy with where we are. We still have four picks tomorrow so we’ll see how things go.”

Denver has one selection in the second round (No. 46) and three picks in the third round (Nos. 77, 83 and 95). It wouldn’t be surprising to see Elway try to trade some of those third-round picks to secure a higher pick at some point on Friday.

We put together lists of seven cornerbacks and eight offensive linemen the Broncos should consider drafting on Day 2.
