The Denver Broncos selected Iowa defensive back Riley Moss in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft on Friday evening (83rd overall). The pick was acquired in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. In order to nab Moss, Denver dealt pick No. 107 this year and a 2024 third-round pick to Seattle.

Moss (6-1, 194 pounds) was a fifth-year player at Iowa at the end of 2022.  At the 2023 Senior Bowl, Moss was clocked at 19.5 miles per hour at the all-star game, the fastest player in the game.

At the NFL combine, Moss ran a 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds, had a 39-inch vertical, and a broad jump of 10 feet, 7 inches. As a Hawkeye, Moss defended 26 passes, finishing with 11 interceptions, forcing two fumbles, with 158 total tackles.

In 2020, he was named as an honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference honors. In 2021, Moss was named a third-team Associated Press All-American, also earning Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Year. In 2022, Moss was named a first-team all-conference recipient.

At his Ankeny, Iowa high school, he won the 110-meter hurdles, Drake Relays, and the Iowa State Meet as a senior.

A big defensive back, Moss adds needed depth to the Broncos’ defense, while trying to match up against some of the best receivers in the NFL in the AFC West.

After zero picks on Day 1 of the NFL draft, Broncos general manager George Paton dealt his way to three picks in the second and third rounds. With one day to go, Denver has at least two more picks to go.
