The Denver Broncos selected Wisconsin cornerback Faion Hicks in the 7th round of the 2022 NFL draft on Saturday evening (232nd overall).
Hicks (5-10) is the Broncos’ final pick of the draft – barring a trade.
A redshirt senior, the CB earned an All-Big Ten honorable notice in 2020. Hicks, a Miami native, totaled 13 total tackles and four pass breakups that season. In his final collegiate season, though, Hicks totaled 28 total tackles, nine pass breakups and a QB hit.
Signing Blessuan Austin after a minicamp tryout gave the team optionality heading into the draft. Ultimately, general manager George Paton double dips at the position to wrap up the week.
Hicks joins the aforementioned Austin, Patrick Surtain, Ronald Darby and K’Waun Williams in the Broncos’ cornerback room. Add in safeties Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson and the team’s defensive secondary looks like a second iteration of the No Fly Zone.
Hicks joins his college teammate Matt Henningsen in Denver. The Broncos now have 80 players on their roster. That leaves 10 slots available for undrafted rookie free agents.
