Broncos QB Russell Wilson continues praising RB Jaleel McLaughlin

Broncos QB Russell Wilson said rookie RB Jaleel McLaughlin was “spectacular” in an expanded role against the Bears last week.

The Broncos got their first win against the Chicago Bears this past Sunday, and they are looking to build on that momentum this week as they face the New York Jets.

Running back Jaleel McLaughlin became an undrafted free agent in the spring and he was signed by the Broncos. So far, he has 95 yards on the ground and two total touchdowns. Against the Bears, McLaughlin gained 72 of those 95 yards on seven rushes while rushing for a touchdown.

Denver quarterback Russell Wilson recently sang the praises of McLaughlin, who stepped in to fill the void injured running back Javonte Williams left. Wilson commended the spirit of McLaughlin, which impressed the veteran quarterback due to the running back being a rookie.

“He was spectacular,” Wilson said of McLaughlin’s performance against the Bears. “Obviously seeing Javonte go down was tough because he’s been great for us so far. I think Jaleel is a young rookie. The spirit of him is what’s amazing, his confidence. He’s got God all over him. He has great confidence all over him.

“He just believes how great he can be. He works at it every day. Guy gets here early to the facility, like you guys know, and he’s so dedicated to the game. And of course, it translates to playing well, and he did a great job.”

Wilson also gushed with praise for McLaughlin this summer, praising the running back’s mentality, work ethic and versatility.

McLaughlin will look to build on his breakout performance this Sunday when Denver faces off against the Jets.
