Broncos practice squad tracker: 16 signings on deck

We are tracking all of the Broncos’ practice squad signings here.

After finalizing a 53-man roster on Saturday, the Denver Broncos will build a 16-player practice squad on Sunday. We will be tracking all of the team’s practice squad signings on this page.

Fans should note that none of these signings are official until confirmed by the team.

The league initially planned to have 12-player practice squads this year but increased the number to 16 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Broncos coach Vic Fangio hopes the expanded practice squad rule will be adopted for future seasons as well.

“I think it’s a good thing that they’ve expanded the practice squad,” Fangio said on Sept. 3. “I’m hopeful that this stays forever. I’ve been saying it for a long time. We don’t have minor leagues in the NFL like baseball and basketball does and hockey does.

“We need to have more people on the practice squad to try and develop them. It does help practice during the season, the more guys you have around. It keeps giving us a chance to develop players. I hope this higher number of practice squad guys stays.”

Last year, QB Brett Rypien, LB Josh Watson and OL Jake Rodgers made Denver’s initial practice squad before later being promoted to the active roster during the regular season. This year, the Broncos can protect four players a week on the practice squad — so players like Rypien won’t be eligible to leave the practice squad to sign with another team if they are included on the protected list.
