Bring out the Brooms, Notre Dame Baseball Sweeps Presbyterian

Notre Dame Baseball shuts out Presbyterian, earns weekend sweep.

The brooms were out in Clinton, South Carolina today as Link Jarrett’s Irish team got their first sweep of the season, shutting out Presbyterian 9-0. The win gives Notre Dame their best start since the 2015 season at 7-2.

The Irish offense gave starter Will Mercer an early lead, scoring 3 runs in the top of the first as 2B Jared Miller doubled with the bases loaded to clear the bases. In the second, CF Spencer Myers ran wild, stealing home with DH Carter Putz scoring on a wild pitch to stretch the lead to 5-0 after the top of the 2nd.

That was more than enough for the Irish pitching staff as Mercer pitched 5 scoreless innings, getting the win. Relievers Jack Brannigan, Andrew Belick, Dominic Cancellier and Evan Tenuta each worked scoreless innings to complete the first shutout of the season for Notre Dame.

The Irish will try and keep their 3-game winning streak alive as they begin the ACC season by traveling to Chapel Hill next weekend. Their series against the Tar Heels is set to start Friday, March 6th at 3:00pm EST.
