Brian Flores praises Xavien Howard after Player of the Week honor

The cornerback appreciates the recognition, but he’s focusing on the Jets.

The Miami Dolphins have won back-to-back games in the last two weeks, allowing some to finally express positive feelings about the team that they couldn’t during a seven-game losing streak.

One of the real difference-makers in recent weeks has been the play of the defense. They’ve held opponents to just 15 points per game in the last three, the seventh-lowest during that stretch.

In their Week 10 win over Baltimore, Xavien Howard played so well that he earned some recognition from the league and praise from his coach.

“X is obviously a big part of this team,” Brian Flores said during his Wednesday media availability. “From a leadership standpoint, and as far as his play, I think he’s played well. For me and for us, we’re just kind of focused on today. We celebrated his Player of the Week in the meeting this morning, announced that this morning, gave him a round of applause. The next thing he said was ‘let’s get ready for the Jets.'”

Howard is deserving of the respect and recognition that he’s getting this week. Without his key plays, the Dolphins may only have one win. He stripped Damien Harris to secure a victory in the season opener, and he forced a fumble from Sammy Watkins and returned it for a touchdown to expand their lead over the Ravens.

While the award is nice, it’s awesome to see he’s just looking forward to the next game and making it three wins in a row.
