Brian Flores indicates Dolphins have considered quarantining QBs

The Miami Dolphins, like the rest of the NFL, are facing a daunting challenge this season to survive the rigors of their travel schedule as things currently stand and avoid any COVID-19 cases on their roster. And, should any NFL team find themselves with active cases, they’ll certainly be playing games on Sundays without those players available.

So what happens if a team sees their quarterback room hit by the virus? There are plenty of positions on the field that a team can simply take in stride and adjust their game plan for a missing piece. But the quarterback? The quarterback is the straw that stirs the drink — and that’s not an easy fix if a team sees two or three quarterbacks all quarantined for a game.

Which is why some teams are supposedly considering the idea of quarantining their quarterbacks for the season, a decision that would be made in the name of caution. By putting the quarterbacks in a more secure and secluded environment, teams could theoretically protect them better from possible outside interference. Among the teams apparently considering such a measure? The Miami Dolphins.

Brian Flores met with the media this morning and during the call indicated that the team has at the very least had the discussion of what quarantining the quarterbacks for the season would look like — although he admitted he’s not sure how likely such a measure is to come to be reality.

These are odd times — and you certainly didn’t need to hear Miami is considering quarantining their quarterbacks to know it. But to know that Miami is continuing to put all options on the table for how to best position their team to work their way through the upcoming season is a strong reassurance that the Dolphins will be among the teams to consider — and likely act — on anything and everything they can to give themselves the chance to win this fall.
