Brian Burns: I’m definitely ready if I have to go somewhere else

Still without a contract in hand, Panthers OLB Brian Burns says he’s staying ready for all outcomes this offseason.

Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Brian Burns is prepared for all outcomes.

The two-time Pro Bowl rusher, and current Pro Bowl alternate, spoke with reporters on Monday. And since he’s heading into the offseason without a contract, you best believe he was asked about his future.

“I just know they [the Panthers] got a lot stuff to do,” he said. “They got a lot of stuff to figure out. I don’t think I’m No. 1 on that list right now.”

Well, he’s probably not wrong. Although he could be hitting free agency, the Panthers are currently a bit busy trying to corral a new head coach and a new general manager—a spot just made vacant by this morning’s firing of Scott Fitterer.

So, Burns—who was unable to reach a long-term pact this past offseason—was asked how he’ll remain patient as the organization goes through their process.

“Focusin’ on myself,” he replied. “The best thing I can do is be ready. If it do turn out that they do wanna keep me here and I stay, I’m ready. And if turns out I have to go somewhere else, I’m definitely ready for that, too. So as long as I’m ready in any angle, I’m fine.”

Burns finished the campaign with 8.0 sacks, the fewest since his rookie season in 2017.
