Brett Phillips had a hilarious postgame response after giving up a home run to Mike Trout

Amazing.

While the no-hitter from Angels rookie pitcher Reid Detmers was undeniably the main story from Tuesday’s game in Anaheim, Brett Phillips found a way to make his eighth inning experience awfully interesting.

The Tampa Bay Rays outfielder entered the blowout game as a pitcher — just as he had done earlier this season — and proceeded to pitch like a person who had never thrown a baseball before. Back in April, he was able to get through two innings with his 55 mph heat, allowing four runs to the A’s. But Oakland does not have Mike Trout — the Angels do.

And well, it wasn’t a great idea to throw a batting practice pitch to Trout.

On the first pitch he saw from Phillips, Trout drove a middle-middle 54 mph meatball to that weird rock pile beyond center field. Despite Phillips’ demoralized on-field reaction, he was a great sport about the Trout homer.

He took to Twitter after the game and fired off a hilarious tweet to the Angels star.

Trout should have tried to do that from the left side. It worked for Anthony Rendon.

Fans loved how Phillips was able to laugh off the rough outing, though.
