The Oklahoma Sooners are set to play on a short week against the [autotag]TCU Horned Frogs[/autotag] on Friday. The Sooners currently have question marks at quarterback.
Starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel went out with what was said to be an “upper-body” injury by [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag] in their win against the [autotag]BYU Cougars[/autotag]. Multiple reports came out and said it was a head injury for Gabriel.
If that’s the case, it usually takes six or seven days to pass protocol. That gives Gabriel a chance at playing on Friday. Venables even said he expects him to be available. But this staff is usually cautious with those kinds of injuries, as they should be. So, if Gabriel can’t go, that would mean true freshman [autotag]Jackson Arnold[/autotag] would get his first start of the season.
Venables said he thinks he’s up for the challenge if that were to happen.
“Jeff (Lebby) does a good job. The first and second team guys are getting virtually the same amount of reps,” Venables said. “The things we’re asking him to do, he’s good at. We don’t have to, ‘Okay Jackson is in, so let’s do this.’ There are some things that he might be good at, but the game plan is going to be the game plan based on the things you are going to see from an opponent and the things we do every single week.”
If Gabriel can go, I think it’s only right to send him out in his final game as the starting quarterback. But if he can’t go, I think it would be fun to get another glimpse of what the future will look like in the Arnold era.
