Max Melton is heading to the NFL draft the Rutgers football defensive back announced on Monday.
Despite being in his fourth season at Rutgers, and having not utilized a redshirt, Melton still had one year of eligibility left (for playing during the 2020 Covid-19 season). But with his stock high, Melton rightly has decided to test the NFL draft waters in what is a wise move for his future.
In 2023, Melton finished with 32 total tackles, six passes defended and three interceptions. This past season, hHe was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection by both the coaches and the media.
It marked consecutive years where Melton was an All-Big Ten selection.

Earlier on Monday, defensive lineman Aaron Lewis, also an All-Big Ten selection, announced that he would be returning to Rutgers next year.
The decision by Melton makes sense given his form over the last two years has given NFL teams more than enough film from which to make their evaluations.
His older brother, Bo Melton, was a draft pick out of Rutgers and is currently a wide receiver with the Green Bay Packers.
