BREAKING: Ohio State officially in Big Ten Championship Game

In an unsurprising move, the Big Ten announced Wednesday that they would allow Ohio State in the title game despite not playing six games.

As many speculated the second rumors began to swirl that “The Game” between Michigan and Ohio State would be canceled, that the Big Ten would bend their rules requiring six games be played by a team in order for them to qualify for the Big Ten Championship Game.

As it turns out, that belief became official on Wednesday afternoon as the Big Ten announced that Ohio State would be representing the Big Ten East in this year’s conference title game.

Here is the official release from the Big Ten Conference:

Decision was Voted on by the Big Ten Conference Administrators Council and Made in Collaboration with the Big Ten Presidents and Chancellors and the Big Ten Conference

The Big Ten Conference Administrators Council, which includes the Directors of Athletics and Senior Women Administrators from all 14 member institutions, voted today to eliminate the minimum-game requirement for participation in the 2020 Big Ten Football Championship Game. The decision was made in collaboration with the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors and the conference office.

The decision was based on a competitive analysis which determined that Ohio State would have advanced to the Big Ten Football Championship Game based on its undefeated record and head-to-head victory over Indiana regardless of a win or loss against Michigan.

As a result of the decision, Ohio State will represent the East Division in the 2020 Big Ten Football Championship game against Northwestern.

The conference continues to prioritize the health and safety of our student-athletes and remains flexible and united with its 14 member institutions and partners during these unprecedented times.

I entirely get why the Big Ten did it and don’t blame them.  The Big Ten pretty much appeared to only play football this fall to appease Ohio State, their lone national title contender.
Assuming Ohio State wins, which they’ll likely do as they’ve won 32 of their last 33 against Northwestern, it certainly appears they’d be in the College Football Playoff as they’re currently ranked fourth nationally.
That’s fine and dandy.
Just remember that in the coming years when some want to knock Notre Dame’s 12 game schedule against some teams who played 13 games thanks to conference championship games.
