Breaking: Michigan tight end Monte Keener commits to Rutgers football

Monte Keener committed to Rutgers football on Sunday afternoon.

Monte Keener committed to Rutgers football on Sunday.

Keener, who visited Rutgers a week ago, is a three-star tight end. He attends Linden High School (Linden, MI). Last year, the class of 2024 recruit had 25 catches for 318 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

At 6-foot-7, Keener has a good catching radius. He is solid with his hands as a receiver and is a committed blocker.

According to 247Sports, Keener is the No. 33 recruit in Michigan and the No. 66 tight end in the nation. He also held Power Five offers from Indiana and Minnesota. Several MAC programs and Ivy League schools also offered Keener.

Along with four-star running back Gabriel Winowich, he is one of two commits from Michigan in this recruiting class for Rutgers.

The Scarlet Knights are expected to take two tight ends in this recruiting class. Keener announced his decision via social media on Sunday afternoon:

The 2024 recruiting class currently stands at six verbals for Rutgers. Four of the players are on offense,

Three of the verbals: Keener, Winowich and Sam Pilof (a commit earlier this month who is a three-star linebacker from Wisconsin) are not from New Jersey. All three represent an expansion of Rutgers football’s recruiting beyond their typical blueprint.
