Alabama football head coach Nick Saban informed the CBS crew during his interview leading into halftime vs. Tennessee that Crimson Tide wide receiver, Jaylen Waddle, will miss he remainder of the season after suffering a broken ankle on the kickoff return to start the game, according to The Athletics Aaron Suttles.
Waddle was a Heisman hopeful, entering Week 5 of SEC action with top-ten odds to win the award. He is also seen as a contender to be drafted in the top 5 of the 2021 NFL draft.
While Waddle still has one more year of eligibility remaining, chances are high that today was his last day in an Alabama uniform, as most experts expect him to declare for the draft and forego his senior season.
Deemed as one of the most explosive players in college football, Waddle was known for his speed and elusiveness, which made his kickoff returns that much greater than almost any other returners in the nation.
Saban, while making the announcement, claimed a returner shouldn’t take a ball out of the endzone if it was caght as deep as it was.
