At this point, most mock drafts for the Pittsburgh Steelers are starting to look the same. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing but it does lull the fans into a sense of security that their guy will be there. And if he is and the Steelers pass on them, the vitriol will be legendary because the experts were right and the front office was wrong.
I bring this up because ESPN has a new three-round mock draft out and in the first round they stuck squarely with the status quo for the Steelers.
Here are how the picks played out.
First round-RB Najee Harris, Alabama
Second round-OT Alex Leatherwood, Alabama
Third round-CB Shaun Wade, Ohio State
The big takeaway from this is no center in the first three rounds. A strong case can be made center is the team’s top priority. But just watching this mock draft play out shows how tricky getting one is going to be in this draft. There are really only three guys who look like they can come in and play early, one is coming off a torn ACL and another plays for DIII school.
The biggest plus from this is getting Wade in the third round. He was a downright dominant slot cornerback in 2019 and would be a seamless replacement for Mike Hilton.
Overall, this draft makes a lot of sense. Leatherwood is a ridiculous athlete but needs to be a tackle in the Steelers system. Overall, what do you make of this new mock draft? Let us know in the comments.
