The 2021 NFL draft is going to be particularly important for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Free-agent losses are going to force the team to draft for need and fill some significant spots on the depth chart.
Our friends over at Draft Wire have a brand new three-round mock draft and we wanted to take a look at the Steelers picks to see if they filled their top pending offseason needs.
First round | Dillon Radunz | OT | North Dakota State
Second round | Jayson Oweh | EDGE | Penn State
Third round | Master Teague III | RB | Ohio State
With Zach Banner, Alejandro Villanueva and Matt Feiler all set to hit the market adding Radunz makes perfect sense. In fact, I’ll honestly be surprised if the Steelers first-round pick is anything but an edge rusher or an offensive lineman.
Moving to the second round, Oweh is a great value. He hasn’t been hugely productive due to a lack of reps but this season could just change all of that. With Bud Dupree likely gone at the end of the season, depth behind Alex Highsmith and T.J. Watt makes a lot of sense.
Moving to the third round, things get a little awkward. If the Steelers don’t re-sign Conner, the team could use a third running back. Benny Snell Jr. would slide in as the starter and hopefully Anthony McFarland Jr. develops as a rookie this season.
Overall, this would be a hit of a draft for a team preparing for a rebuild.
