Breaking down Packers’ final injury report of Week 5 vs. Rams

Breaking down the final injury report of Week 5 before the Packers take on the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

The Green Bay Packers listed cornerback Jaire Alexander, offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins, tight end Luke Musgrave, offensive lineman Jordan Morgan, cornerback Carrington Valentine, linebacker Edgerrin Cooper and defensive lineman Jonathan Ford as questionable and receivers Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs as doubtful and ruled out defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt on the final injury report before facing the Los Angeles Rams in Week 5.

How will the injury situation affect Sunday’s showdown?

Here’s an in-depth breakdown of the Packers’ final injury report ahead of Week 5:

Out (1)

DL Devonte Wyatt (ankle): The Packers’ top interior pass-rusher is out after injuring his ankle in the second half of Sunday’s loss to the Vikings. He didn’t practice all week, so it’s possible this is a multi-week injury. Expect more opportunities for Karl Brooks as an interior rusher, and Colby Wooden will likely be active for the first time in three weeks.

Doubtful (2)

WR Christian Watson (ankle): As expected, Watson will likely miss at least one week. The good news is the Packers didn’t completely rule him out, even after missing all three practices this week, so his return has a legitimate chance of happening next week.

WR Romeo Doubs (personal): Doubs didn’t practice on Thursday or Friday while dealing with a personal issue and is now unlikely to play Sunday. If the Packers are without Watson and Doubs, it’d be safe to assume a heavy workload for both Dontayvion Wicks and Bo Melton in the passing game.

Questionable (7)

CB Jaire Alexander (groin): He practiced in a limited capacity on both Thursday and Friday, so Alexander should have a chance to return after a one-game absence on Sunday. LaFleur said he was “getting better” on Friday.

OL Elgton Jenkins (knee): Jenkins was able to get in limited practices the last two days, so playing Sunday looks likely.

TE Luke Musgrave (ankle): He didn’t practice all week but is questionable. Musgrave is well behind Tucker Kraft in terms of play time, and his absence would open up more snaps for Ben Sims. Expect the Packers to play far less 12 personnel if Musgrave is out.

OL Jordan Morgan (shoulder): He practiced all three days this week, indicating a return. The bigger question is if he’ll return to a rotation with Sean Rhyan at right guard. It’s possible Rhyan has played too well the last two weeks to go back to splitting snaps.

CB Carrington Valentine (ankle): He should return after missing back-to-back games. With Alexander’s status unknown, Valentine’s return could come at a good time. He would be a likely starter if Alexander can’t go, or return to splitting snaps with Eric Stokes if Alexander is available.

LB Edgerrin Cooper (hip): He reinjured his hip, aggravating an injury he suffered in training camp. Despite missing Thursday’s practice, Cooper was available on Wednesday and Friday.

DL Jonathan Ford (calf): While not on the 53-man roster yet, Ford isn’t far away from being ready to return. The Packers have a three-week window to activate him.

No status designation

The following players have no status designation and will be available to play on Sunday vs. the Rams: DL Kenny Clark, QB Jordan Love.

Rams injury report

The Rams ruled out receiver Cooper Kupp (ankle) and defensive lineman Larrell Murchinson (forearm/foot). Offensive lineman Steve Availa, offensive lineman Jonah Jackson, safety John Johnson III and receiver Puka Nacua are on injured reserve.
