Breaking: Catalon out for the season with shoulder surger

Arkansas’ first-team All-SEC safety Jalen Catalon will miss the rest of the season.

Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said after Saturday’s win over South Carolina that preseason All-SEC safety Jalen Catalon will miss the rest of the season because of a shoulder injury.

Catalon was hurt halfway through Arkansas’ Week 1 win over Cincinnati he left with an upper-body injury. He hurt his shoulder in 2021, as well, halfway through the season and missed the team’s final six games.

Catalon was a first-team All-SEC selection in the preseason despite that. He is projected as a first-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft, as well, after a Freshman All-American season two years ago.

Latavious Brini played a bulk of the snaps in Catalon’s stead and the Georgia transfer is likely to continue as a starter going forward.

Pittman also said nickel Myles Slusher should return for Week 3 against Missouri State.
