The Oregon Ducks were unable to add to their 2022 recruiting class on Wednesday afternoon, with 4-star athlete Arlis Boardingham announcing that he would be committing to the Florida Gators rather than coming up north to Eugene for his college career.

Boardingham was originally expected to make his decision on national signing day but said that the race between Oregon and Florida was so tight that he was going to wait until after to make his announcement.

Boardingham is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound TE/WR/DE who projects to immediately have an impact on the roster. He is rated as the No. 30 athlete in the nation, and the No. 483 player overall.

While it would have been really nice to add a player like Boardingham to the roster, losing him to the Gators is not the worst thing in the world. Adding another player to the roster would have likely caused some roster attrition down the road, with the Ducks currently hovering near the limit of scholarships available. Oregon can expect some players to enter the transfer portal this spring — that’s just how this modern era of football goes — but they will have to watch the numbers closely over the coming months.

Recruiting for this cycle isn’t over just yet, either. There are still players like 5-star OT Josh Conerly or 5-star DE Lebbeus Overton who have yet to make their commitments, both of whom have listed the Ducks among their top schools. Going forward, we will be watching their recruitment closely.
