Brazil to leave Arkansas after 17 years with basketball program

Jeff Brazil had the second longest tenure of anyone in the program.

The name Jeff Brazil may not be one known to the average Arkansas fan. It might not even be a name known to the average Arkansas women’s basketball fan.

But after 16 years of working with the Razorbacks’ hoopsters, the people in and around the program sure do know who he is. And they’re going to miss him.

Brazil is leaving the program for the private sector after 16 years, making him the second longest tenured person in the program, only behind women’s basketball director of operations Amber Shirey, whose 31 years in the athletic department follower her four years on the court.

Most recently, Brazil was special assistant to head coach Mike Neighbors and he also served as video director. He joined the program in 2009 as an assistant video director on coach Tom Collen’s staff.

Neighbors said Brazil was much more than the guy who simply videoed the games. He practically created the whole system for the program. Now he’s heading to do similar work in scouting and analytics for a private company.

“The title ‘Video Coordinator’ was the worst job title ever for him,” Neighbors said. “I mean, I would hear somebody say, ‘Oh, what do you do? Videotape the games?’ You have got to change his title if people really think that, because first of all, he built the system.”
